Amingaon, May 21: The meeting of the District Child Welfare and Protection Committee (DCWPC), Kamrup, was held on Thursday at the Conference Hall of the District Commissioner’s Office, Amingaon, under the chairmanship of District Commissioner of Kamrup, Deba Kumar Mishra.
The meeting reviewed the functioning and progress of the Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile Justice Board, while various issues and concerns related to child welfare and protection in the district were discussed in detail. Emphasis was laid on strengthening institutional mechanisms and enhancing coordinated efforts among concerned departments for the welfare and protection of children.
Special emphasis was also laid on creating greater public awareness regarding legal adoption procedures and promoting adoption as an important measure for ensuring the care, protection, and rehabilitation of children in need. The meeting highlighted the importance of sensitising communities about safe, transparent, and lawful adoption practices through wider awareness initiatives.
During the meeting, the District Commissioner asked the concerned departments and stakeholders to submit proposals regarding any requirements or demands related to child welfare activities and infrastructure. He also stressed the need for greater awareness at the state level on issues concerning child welfare, protection, and adoption to ensure wider outreach and effective implementation of schemes and safeguards.
The meeting was also attended by Senior Superintendent of Police, Kamrup, Subhasish Baruah; Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Sharif Uddin Ahmed Pathan; Chief Executive Officer, Kamrup Zila Parishad, Siddhartha Goswami; Additional District Commissioners Geetashri Lachit and Aditya Gogoi; Additional Superintendent of Police Punnam Pegu; District Social Welfare Officer; and officials associated with Child Protection Unit and Child Helpline Team.
