Assam BJP Welcomes the Government’s Decision to Uphold the State’s Heritage, Pride, and Traditions 
Guwahati, 9 th June: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has warmly welcomed the government’s decision to name the Dibrugarh Airport after the ‘Bard of Brahmaputra’, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika , during his birth centenary year.
In an official statement issued from the party headquarters today, the BJP extended heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and stated that the party has always remained committed to honoring and rightly valuing the contributions of the people’s artist, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
The statement recalled that it was the former Prime Minister Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government that had conferred the Bharat Ratna on Dr. Hazarika , thus giving him the national recognition he deserved.
The BJP also welcomed the government’s initiative to organize a musical performance of “Axom Aamar Rupohi” by a thousand youth on 8th September at the Khanapara Field to commemorate the music maestro.
Additionally, the party appreciated the plans to issue a commemorative coin and host the concluding ceremony of the birth centenary year at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi in honor of Dr. Hazarika. 
The party also praised the government’s decision to bring out a dedicated book on the illustrious life journey of Dr. Hazarika, calling it a commendable effort.
In the BJP’s statement, it was mentioned that Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s government has left no stone unturned in advancing Assam’s traditions, legacy, and dignity.
Key initiatives cited include: 
The grand celebration of Bir Lachit Borphukan’s 400th birth anniversary in New Delhi .
The active steps taken for UNESCO World Heritage recognition of the Charaideo Maidams .
Setting a Guinness World Record through the performance of Bihu by 12,000 artists in Delhi, presenting Assam’s cultural pride to the world.
National promotion of tea garden culture through the traditional dance Jhumoir Binondini.
Installation of a statue of Bir Lachit Borphukan at Holongapar .
Installation of a statue of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi at Guwahati Airport. 
The release further stated that through these significant steps, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s government has time and again proven that Assam and the Assamese identity always come first.
Moreover, to strengthen unity within diversity, the decision to recognize Assamese in the Brahmaputra Valley, Bodo in BTR, and Bengali in Barak Valley for official government use has also been lauded in the statement .
